What’s Next?

I have been prepping my next project and am getting pretty psyched up about it.  Gosh, that expression reminds me of college.  My house mates were always talking about being "psyched" about one thing or another.  That sure dates me.   Did you ever use that expression or is that way earlier than your time?  Funny how some expressions sound so dated.  "Groovy man", "Rad", "Out of sight" in the 70's,  and now "Sick", "On fleek", "Bae".  Silly.  It's always something.

Anyway, this is what I am up to next:

The project is called Aurora from Edyta Sitar's Patches of Blue book. I plan to use the new Christopher Wilson Tate collection "Regency Blues", and have been starching, drying and ironing them this week.

My husband just ordered me a whole case of Faultless Spray Starch from Walmarts, so I should be good for starch for awhile.  Although, I think I went through two and a half cans with this project! I have really gotten to love sewing with starched fabrics.  Are the rest of you on the starch band wagon yet?  I am loving it.  It's an extra step, but my gosh, the sewing is wonderful.

Hope your week got off to a good start.  Mine did with my volunteer stint in Eva's first grade class.  It has been such fun getting to know those kids this year.  Only one more week.  I'm gonna miss those kids.  Poor Benjamin was in major time out today for cutting off a hank of his classmate Haylee's hair.  Oooh.  Teacher is going to have some explaining to do to Haylee's parents….  Glad Eva doesn't sit next to him.

  4. I love to starch my fabric. Although I do not starch precuts, with the exception of fat quarters. They will shrink. The starch makes all the difference as far as block size and those pesky frays that pop up.

  7. You stitch the best projects. Looking forward to this one. I bought a FQ bundle of the Wm Morris fabric (V&A museum/Moda. I am getting ready to deliver the quilt to my LAQ. But, I didn’t use of the stack of the blues that were part of the bundle, so they’re just sitting, tempting me. I have another collection of blues and grays, may put them altogether for a quilt for my grandson who will probably be in a regular bed soon (crib climber). Not a starch person, but I do press all my FQ before I cut. I worked for a while for the CA UC system, always a little emptiness when the students would go off for the summer. Reminded me of school times when friends would drift off with summer plans. It does make school starting time more exciting so there’s that to look forward to.

  10. Love your groovy new pattern! Starch on fabric before cutting is definitely rad! It’s easy to tell you’re psyched for the new project! And, poor little Benjamin’s foray into hair styling will probably follow him throughout his school career…what a bummer! Dude! WHAT were you thinking????

  16. Oh my gosh! I bought this book last fall just because I had my eye on this very quilt. I cannot wait to see yours. Mine will have to wait a bit yet so I will enjoy your progress!

  19. I’ve gotten into the habit of starching my fabric because I feel like I get more accurate piecing and control when I starch. I’ve tried several kinds of starch, including home made (had to keep shaking it), but I’m liking Sta-Flo quite a bit. I can mix it for light, medium, or heavy stiffness.

    4) Dang, Benjamin is in deep do-do. ;p
    5) A case of starch was the obvious choice.
    I don’t starch. I also don’t pre-wash so don’t @ me, okay? ;p

  31. Ohhhhh. I love anything by Edyta Sitar. I have this book in my cart on Amazon. I just keep talking myself out of it since I have many more projects in the works.
The best quilting hint I ever got was from your blog about the starch. I use the liquid and dunk. It has improved my quilting immensely.
I can’t wait to see the finished quilt.

  34. I have that book and this pattern is on my to make list, if only I had time for a sew along! But I am in a super busy time at work that probably won’t let up until Sept. or Oct. so very little sewing going on here.
