What’s Wrong With This Picture?

004

Now this is a novel concept.  Not sure if it would work for me so much, but interesting idea.

There have just been too many men in my house this week.  The place is teaming with testosterone.  The men are very nice, but they are just so, so, masculine.   They joke around, laugh loudly, bang things, operate really loud machinery, and generally just do not act like women.  Sophie just about can't stand it.  First of all, she doesn't care for strange men.  Second, she abhors banging (remember when she bit me on the butt when I was smashing garlic?).  Third, she finds long sticks, boards, brooms and things of that sort extremely threatening.  As a result, she has spent much of the week in her dog crate and is very grumpy about it.

I just let her out for a split second Tuesday and she got into all sorts of trouble.

Today she kept me company in the sewing room while I worked on Big Madeline.

I have made almost all the 25 blocks, but didn't have room to lay them all out.  My floor space is all occupied by men with flooring boards, don't you know.  I had room in the guest bath to lay out nine of the blocks.  It looks just like the Madeline Schnibble, only bigger!  My blocks are 12 inches unfinished.   Kind of a weird size, but it doesn't really matter, since it is a straight set and can be any old size top I want it to be.  I have to start considering ideas for the border.  Since I have decided to use my leftover fabrics to make Elizabeth (another Miss Rosie pattern), I don't want to use my scraps for a border, even though I love the look.  I may have enough of the large red floral print (my favorite) to be the border for Madeline.

I might just finish this project this week, while I keep busy staying out of the way of the workmen who are in every other room of the house.

  1. Your blocks are looking great! I really love that fabric line.
Gives a whole other meaning to peeing in the shower!

  3. I have to finish Elizabeth before I start another!! I’m off work today and I’m so tempted to start something else…like a grown up Madeline!

  5. OH it looks lovely! I can’t wait to see the finished thing.
Poor Sophie..I can only imagine. My pups are upset if they’re locked up for a few hours.

  7. looks great. the best thing about renos is that you don’t have to clean while the work is being done…more time for sewing!

  9. I have a healthy stash of Rouenneries (sp?) and I just haven’t found the “right” idea for it yet. Your big 12″ stars are looking mighty good – maybe I’m closer than I think to cutting into that stash! Great look – the stars, not the bathroom!! lol

  15. The tile looks great. The toilet in the shower could be handy if you are in a rush, I guess. LOL
I think a lot of us are thinking “Madeleine Grows Up” is a better title for your WIP. Big Madeleine sounds like a woman who could put a hurt on you!

  19. That makes me want to run right out and get more Rounerries fabric. Big Madeline is going to be beautiful.
Toilet in the shower. Now why didn’t I think of that….

  21. Oh wow, you’re making such quick progress. Loud, obnoxious, banging men should be tearing your house up every week. You get lots done when you’re holed up in your sewing room taking refuge.
Sophie sounds like she’s a wreck. I can only imagine her, warily eyeing those men, with all their boards, thinking of ways she can destroy them. Or at the very least, chew up their jackhammer cords and quiet the place down. Bless her heart.

  23. I had to laugh at the sight of the toilet in the shower–thinking for a split second that this was intentional, then it hit me. We are getting bids for our bathroom remodel and I’m scared spitless. Knowing that you were able to still put together some beautiful blocks allows me to press forward with a little less fear. Great post!

  25. Wow, you are going to town on Big Madeline! When was the last time you finished a quilt the same week you started it? I can easily understand your enthusiasm, I love it each time I see it, even on your bathroom floor, it looks amazing.

  27. Hilarious use of a shower in a home–usually you only see that juxtaposition in an RV 🙂
Loving the new and improved Madeline. So, so pretty! I hope Sophie behaved herself in your sewing room.

  29. My Sophie sympathizes with your Sophie. She hates loud noises and (thankfully) is too short to take it out on my butt. Your Madelaine is looking fantastic. I just discovered your blog recently and you’ve been so inspiring!

  31. I don’t want to be a stalker, so I thought I would let you know that I have been reading your accounts for a couple of weeks now. In the middle I hurt my hand (dog bite by my beloved but elderly pet suffering from arthritis) so have been unable to quilt myself. I feel truly inspired to begin something new! Thanks for bringing a little sunshine to my days.

  33. Love the blocks! How much fabric do you think that top would take? What would you buy of each color?

  35. Sooo pretty. I need to make these quilts – I have a granddaughter named Madeleine, and a granddaughter named Elizabeth. (Then Miss Rosie needs to design a Rachel and a Diane and I’ll have one for each granddaughter).

  37. LOL – you made me smile with your comment of “generally just do not act like women” It won’t be long and the work will be done and a more feminine air can take over the house again.
    Love BIG Madeline…looks gorgeous!

  39. Thanks for the laughs! I can just imagine the masculine noise. I raised two sons and they and their friends made our house seem much smaller than it was!
    Poor Sophie!
Love Madeline and your lovely blocks!
    Hugs!

  41. Nicole, it must be nice just to have someone show up to do the work. I’ve waited 8 weeks for estimates and the work day to start…which was today but he called and can’t make it today. So hug the guys that are doing your work…at least they’ve shown up. I’m so PO’d that I can’t even sit down to sew. So I really envy all the work you are getting done, on the house and sewing. Yea for you!!!
