Whole Lot of Nothing Going On

Did you ever get home from a vacation and find yourself incapable of doing much of anything?  I'd say this week has been pretty much a complete waste, except that I did meet with a real estate agent about selling our house.  She liked the house but thought the yard was messy.  I told her the weeds were temporary.  The good news is she thinks we can get a quick sale.  The bad news is that she thinks we should list the house for nearly $100,000 less than we had hoped.  That's a lot of money, my friends.

I am continuing with my sprucing up efforts, and concentrated on adding some color to the garden.  Cheery impatiens in pots.

Ivy geraniums and alyssum in hanging baskets.

The roses are beautiful right now.  I need to get up on a ladder and wind those longest tendrils through the top of the arbor.

004

I feel like I have the equivalent of a chicken in every pot.  A quilt on every bed.  They look inviting, don't they?  I want to dive right into them.

Somebody buy my house please?

I have plenty to do in the sewing room, but never got in there.  I will get back to it next week.  Here is the border fabric I purchased for Elizabeth.  I think the light background will be lovely with the lighter tonal quality of the quilt.

My husband is having knee surgery today, so the weekend will be spent trying to keep him off of it.  I know he is going to want to get out into the garden and pull those weeds, but I am only going to let him sit on the chaise lounge and supervise me pulling them!

Hope you have a grand weekend, wherever you are!

  1. Good luck to your husband with his surgery and also with selling your home. Just looking at the bedrooms it will sell in a heart beat. I love the fabric in the quilt in progress. I have some of that from the French General line of Moda.
    Have a great weekend,

  3. Gosh Nicole, all the work you have put in and $100,000 less than you had hoped for – I’m shocked. I would LOVE to buy your home as I’d give my right arm for a house in Northern California – but I guess it isn’t to be. I’m sure the quilts will sell it for you – they look so gorgeous! Good luck – I’m crossing my fingers for you!

  5. Get more real estate agent appraisals. Shop around before you settle on one agent. Not every agent sees the same thing and some are way more confidant on what they can sell it for! Do not sign into a contract until you have shopped around agent wise! Then make your decision on who to get to sell your home. You can get their selling success rate too from central office. As long as the yard is weed free and neat, I would not advise putting more $$ into it. You will not recoup it.

  7. Yes I am sure she will have a quick sale if you drop your price $100,000. That is certainly a lot of money. Have you checked the other houses that are selling in your area? We’ve been looking for a house for almost a year and our market is still pretty high. There are either low end or million $ homes. Hope you can find a happy medium.

  9. I’m with Helen in Switzerland. I think your home is beautiful! I also think your yard looks great whenever we chance a glimpse of it. Right now the real estate markets are just out of control, but hang in there. Your sale will come soon.

  11. Yeouch! $100,000 can buy a lotta yards of fabric. That’s a little discouraging to hear, since my parents just sold their (San Jose, CA) house for 50% more than they hoped for.
Just wanted to mention with the quilts on the beds… are you prepared to give a few up if a buyer falls in love with them? 🙂

  13. Hope your husband’s surgery goes well and you can keep the man put during recovery, you would probably be the first wife to accomplish that feat. LOL!
Before I decided on an agent I interviewed 4 of them and had them write me a proposal on how they would market the sale of the house.
I went with one from Coldwell Banker who had a great marketing strategy. They were not the cheapest but had the best resources and confident seller. One thing I regret was that I didn’t request they work exclusively as a seller agent. I don’t think an agent can work in favor of both parties. If they know how low you are willing to go they cannot counsel the buyer without violating your trust. I got what I wanted but not a dime more than I needed. I would make sure that the agent is working exclusively for me in the future. Good Luck!

  15. I have always been told to get at least 3 appraisals before settling on an agent. You can even go on the MLS site and check what similar houses are selling for in your neighbourhood. Dropping the price usually does mean you can get out quicker…but how quick. Everything goes for the right price. Your home is lovely! quilts look great. I need to do some serious weed pulling too, but I am afraid I am coming down with a cold, have a very sore throat this morning. We are having a surpise party for my son tonight so i need to prepare a bit.

  17. Goodness, you certainly have your plate full. Take care of yourself through all of this. If I needed to buy a house in your area, I’d buy yours. From the pictures I’ve seen, it’s gorgeous!

  19. I’m surprised at the $100,000 number! That’s a hell of a lot of money. I hope you find a better strategy than starting a bidding war with too low of a price. The house looks wonderful (especially with the quilts!) and you have put a lot of $$ into it already.
Vacations almost always require a few more days to return from–but I wish I was doing so right now:)
Border fabric looks lovely. This will be a very pretty quilt when it is all finished.

  21. There really is alot going on in your life…so it makes sense to me that you have lulls in the feeling of progress. Your house looks charming and inviting and soon your yard will too. I hope hubby’s surgery goes smoothly and that he will have good supervisory skills 🙂
Elizabeth is going to be beautiful!

  23. Good luck with selling your house. Hope that your real estate agent is wrong about the price. Your quilts look fabulous on your beds. The border fabric for your Elizabeth quilt is stunning. That will be one awesome quilt. Good luck keeping your hubby quiet. Have a great weekend!

  25. When I sold my Mum’s house a few years back I had a garage sale first, then put a lot of things into storage so that the house was a lot more uncluttered..
It would kill me to do it for mine but it worked. The agent gave a price..I put it up $10,000 and it sold in a fortnight…….wished I had put it up a lot more. You can always come down but the agents tend to just want a sale.
    All the best

  27. Hi!
Hope the surgery went well and please remind your hubby that this nurse said to
    – read and follow all post-op instructions
    – have food in your tummy before taking pain pills
    – don’t wait until you’re really uncomfortable to take a pain pill because a pill takes nearly an hour to help and if the pain is too bad, the pill won’t help enough.
    – the 3rd day post-op is likely to be worst because it just is – and it can be worse if you try to do too much too soon.
Love your quilts and the wonderful look of your home. Hope you’ll have a buyer soon. I agree that starting with your price that much lower is an unwelcome shocker.
    Hugs!

  29. You have staged your home very nicely…I love the quilts on each bed. I would think that 100,000 bucks is a lot to reduce in price! wow…good luck and hope you can sell at your price, in your time frame.

  31. Your home looks nice Nicole. Best of luck to you on selling it. I can only say that we are thrilled we sold ours fast and got the heck out of there. But what an ordeal that was. Something would come up at every turn. We thought we’d never be done with it. Hang in there and I hope it all happens soon for you.
