Willy and Lil

001
This little baby quilt is from the pattern Petit Fours by the fabulous Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs.  I also used her fabric line Lily and Will, which I can never seem to get out of my mouth properly.  Willy and Lil is what comes out for some reason.  Anyway, I used the green color way–my other choices were pink or blue.  Since we don't know if Baby Mine my new grandchild will be a boy or a girl, I am going with gender neutral at this point.  Bunny Hill is coming out with Lily and Will II very soon, and there will be a yellow and an aqua range to choose from.  It is my understanding that the Lily and Will I fabrics can still be ordered, so you can definitely get your pink, blue and green for awhile.

This fabric is so silky and soft!  I also love the fact that it is more sophisticated than your typical baby lines.  No novelty prints for my little one.

I am pretty sure I will send this one out for quilting.  I was thinking how cute it would be to have an all over pattern of bunnies as a quilting design.  I wonder if there is such a pantograph?  I want to back it with that soft Minkee fabric, but can't seem to figure out a green that is an exact match, which would be my first choice.  Maybe I will go with cream instead.

Obviously I have gotten a bit side tracked from my Eventide blocks!  I plan to get back to those Ohio Star blocks immediately and hope to show you some progress on that front.  Have a wonderful weekend, Friends.

  1. What a sweet quilt. I love using grown-up fabrics for baby quilts. I can tell your new grandbaby will be sufficiently spoiled. 🙂

  3. Our first granddaughter is now nearly 7 months old. Hard to believe she’s that old already, but we love her dearly! She already has 3 quilts and I bought Bliss to make her a “big girl” quilt. At the rate I’m moving on my other projects, she might be a big girl before I get it done. Congrats on the new grandbaby. Love the Lilly and Will fabric, can’t wait to see the new line.

  5. Love the colors! Minkee is a wonderful idea. My kids love their quilts backed with Minkee. By not using novelty fabric, the quilt will be enjoyed much longer too 🙂

  7. I too adore this line. Although I have NO babies in mind, and no children or grandchildren, I purchased two different patters of Ann’s and am planning on make one up in the blue, green & brown colorway and the other in the pink, green & brown colorway. Congratulations on your newest “upcoming” addition to your family. P.S. I simply love your blog and read it faithfully, daily if possible. Keep up the good work. Leota

  9. Speed piecing again, eh?! You’re a wonder-worker and this quilt is completely charming! Well done!! I like your idea for bunnies for the quilting. Surely there is such a pantograph somewhere.
Is that a black border I see? I’ve used black in two baby quilts to the astonishment of friends.
    Hugs!

  11. Very lovely little quilt for that new grandbaby – Minkee will be wonderful on the back and you could use white. White is a color these days, isn’t it? Judy C

  13. It’s so pretty! Minkee is so soft, but I sure hate working with it. My grandkids love their minkee blankets. That implies I made them. I didn’t, but they sure love them.

  15. Just darling! I give my quilts to Deb Geissler to quilt. I can attest that her quilting is great and she does her own pantograph patterns. It looks like she has a bunny all-over and a bunny border, but I didn’t look at all of them. If you are interested, here’s her site: http://www.debrageissler.com/

  17. A pretty quilt and so fun to have it all ready when the sweet little one arrives. My mom used to make baby quilts using traditional blocks and fabric, no novelty prints either and they did not have that “baby look”, although nothing wrong with the baby look 🙂 I find that I can use these quilts as wall hangings now and will eventually give them to my children – but hey, they were my babies! I guess it is time to send them on, huh – but I do love them.

  21. I think there are lots of bunny pantographs out there. For the backing look no further than Fig Tree Quilt’s Snuggle fabric. It’s a nicer quality than your normal minkie and she has a luscious ivory creme color. It’s on her web site – go to shop then to “a few of our favorite things”. It’s even cheaper than regular minkie!

  27. I think cream minkee would be a great option for the backing. How lovely to have a quilt waiting to welcome the baby!

  29. The Whimsy line from Fig Tree has a bunch of pastel Minkees out. We have six of them in the shop, and I’ll bet the green would match. Let me know if you want me to send you a strip of it to color-match. I can’t remember off the top of my head if it’s too minty or not…?
