Yo Mama

001
I spent my free time this weekend making little cosmetics bags!  I finished six, and have about twelve to go.  I don't know when I have been so taken with a project!

Thanks for all the suggestions for embellishments that would set off these adorable little pouches.  I started out making ribbon roses, but found them way too fiddly.

Then I switched over to yo yo flowers, and think they are perfect.  Perfect for the project that is.  I still need to practice before my individual yo yos are perfect!  I think by the time I make a couple dozen more of them, I should be proficient…

I am making the "Large" size and the "Small" size.  There does not seem to be a "Medium" size, which seems odd.  At any rate, they are really quick and fun to make with the Clover Yo Yo maker.  I've decided I need to go out today and get some slightly larger buttons for the bigger yo yos.  Live and learn.  I have been to Beverly's at least four times in the past three days.

I've experimented with the size of the bags as well.  In the photo above you see the small and medium size bags in my Terri Atkinson pattern.   I think I will continue with making the small size, since it will fit in the average handbag better.

Better get back to work.  After my trip to Beverly's for larger buttons, that is.

  1. LOVE love love them! They are beautiful and adorable!! OMG love them with the yo-yos!! Those are like the best gifts! I’m so riding that train this year for gift giving. Nice teacher gifts for the girls to give too. I’m an embellishment kind of girls, so I love them with the buttons. You were a busy bee this weekend!!

  7. Nicole – I’ve been making these bags too and they really are fun to make. A pattern with easy to follow instructions for inserting the zipper I think is the key. I’ve also made the bag slightly smaller and it makes a great eyeglass case or whatever you want to use it for.

  11. Nicole, I am laughing so hard I am crying! Your photo with the pile of three bags cut out and waiting with the zippers on top is the exact way my cutting counter looks right now! I made five bags this weekend, have 5 or 6 cut and ready to sew. I have been into town (only five miles but on treacherous ice!) to get more fusible fleece and buttons! And now I am going to make some yo-yos after seeing your’s. Too cute for words!
    Blessings,

  13. Your bags are adorable. I’ve had that pattern for awhile (and the zippers too) but haven’t done anything with it. Maybe this will motivate me. Lucky gals who get these…they will love them.

  15. These little bags are utterly charming and I love the fabrics and yo-yo embellishments.
Wore myself out doing some Christmas shopping so will have to rest before getting back to DS1’s quilt. I finished trimming up all of the blocks last night and felt very virtuous about that! Now to sew blocks together … etc!
    Hugs!

  17. Aha! Those are so cute! I’m starting to not care if those buttons and yo-yo’s catch on anything because they are just too darn adorable.
