Yuletide Blessings

IMG_3919

My next (and probably last) UFO giveaway is pictured above.

This fabric collection is called Yuletide Blessings.  The only Christmassy collection Fig Tree has done for Moda.  I made 68 blocks for a quilt called Fall Frolic in the Evelyn Sloppy book 40 Fabulous Quick Cut Quilts.  It is one of those patterns that call out for a simple all over quilting design.  It could be super cute.

I do not know what happened here with these blocks that caused me to stop construction.  The fabric is great, I have a ton of blocks—who knows?  For whatever reason I lost the love.

Nevertheless, these blocks will make up into a good sized holiday quilt for someone out there in Blogland, who would like to make them into a quilt.  If you think that could be you, leave a comment here and I will announce the winner on Thursday.

I just have to say, I am a bit distracted as I write this.  My son is home for Christmas break, and his long time "pen pal" from Ireland has come out for a visit to get to know him in person, so to speak.  She is lovely.  Just lovely.  And he is so happy.  I have the next three days to get to know her better, and must say, I am really liking what I see.  She brought me a gift.  A gorgeous Waterford bowl that she had to hand carry all the way from Galway,  on the air plane, and all over San Francisco, until she was able to present it to me this evening.  Oh my goodness.  I love it.  What a thoughtful, amazing present.  I will fill it with something suitable and take a picture of it to share.

I made the right decision to put the family Christmas quilt on the bed in the guest room.  Yes I did.

  11. A pen pal house guest! Cool! I always had penpals growing up and did eventually meet a few, but never an international pen pal.
I would love to win your UFO! I can’t tell you how bad I want to make a Christmas quilt but cannot seem to put the fabric together. Thanks for your generosity! It looks like it is going to be a gorgeous quilt!

  35. Do I hear wedding bells in the distance? I think the UFO giveaway is a very kind gesture. Although, I’m not looking to win it anyone who does will be quite lucky. Someday I’ll deviate from my baby quilt-making, lol.

  41. I have been reading your blog for quite awhile and always check first thing in the morning to see what you’ve been working on. I have been quilting for awhile but don’t have any Christmas quilts to show for it (five kids don’t leave me too much time), so those blocks would go to a happy home. 🙂 Blessings during the season and with your special visitor. 45. Hi! I currently have no Christmas quilts, and my New Year’s resolution is shaping up to remedy this. I figure if I can make one block on a consistent basis, I should have something by next Christmas! Eventually I would love to follow your example by placing a Christmas quilt on each bed in the house!

  49. What a lovely giveawawy – please add me to your list. Your Christmas quilt idea has inspired me to do the same.
Meeting pen-pals for the first time is wonderful – when I was 13 and living in South Africa (I am now 43 and in Canada) I started writing to a young 14 year old guy in New York city. We wrote for many years and he came to South Africa to meet me when I was 21 ….. we lost contact for a while but I am happy to say that we found each other through Facebook and are now back in regular contact.
I can’t wait to see your new Waterford bowl – how wonderful that it was carried especially for you on that very long journey!

  79. I love the idea you have of the family Christmas quilt and signatures on the label. We are a very small family and there are currently no overnight visitors. In fact, my guest bed is currently holding all the bright sparkly car parts (fenders, hood, etc) that recently came back from the painter and need to cure. Anyway, I have one quilt that maybe could qualify for a winter (not Christmas) quilt. I have been thinking I need to do a Christmas one. This would get me halfway there, so these blocks would get me partway there. Merry Christmas to all!

  91. Those lovely blocks would match my family room and the quilt would not have to be packed away immediately after the holidays. It could stay out to remind me of good things when all the family has gone home. I’d love to give them a home. If one of the kids didn’t claim it and take it home…

  93. Nicole, I have been checking in on you every day but not leaving comments as winter has set in and it is really affecting my health issues so I do a lot of lurking. Just reading and enjoying seeing all your beautiful treasures. You have been so generous with your giveaways and this morning when I saw these blocks I just had to leave a comment. I do not yet have a holiday quilt and I would love to have one that is in the works to finish up. These blocks will make a beautiful quilt. Thanks for a chance to have a go at it, and Good Luck To Everyone.

I definitely need more Christmas quilts around here, so I would give it a good home 🙂 It’s exciting to hear about your son’s pen pal – she sounds like a lovely person. It’s neat when these things work out, isn’t it? Merry Christmas!

Your Irish visitor sounds like an absolute delight….might there be a wedding quilt in the future?!?!?

The pen pal part gave me goosebumps. Uh, I think that I think what you’re thinking. Is she the one that Arhen wants to give that one quilt to???? How long will she be staying with you all?? I’m sure according to your son, it’s not long enough. 🙂

  151. Hi Nicole,
I can’t believe that you’re able to part with these fabrics/WIP. I love ‘A Yuletide Blessing’. Sadly, it was released some time before I started quilting so everytime I see a fabric of that collection I just have to buy it ;o).
You really chose a beautiful pattern for them ~ it’s going to be a gorgeous Christmas quilt once the lucky one will finish it…
Speaking of Christmas quilts ~ as the others already pointed out, it definitely was a great idea to choose the family quilt on the guest bed…I’m already curious if there will be any future stories to tell about your special guest …
    Have a wonderful day,
    Julia… {who just broke her sewing machine in the midst of Christmas gift making & who really needed a beautiful post like yours to cheer up ;o)}

  157. Nicole,
You have inspired me to get moving on Christmas decorating with all the lovely Christmas quilts. It won’t really feel like Christmas until my kids come home from college for winter break but at least I get the spirit moving. I love the idea of a special Christmas quilt that gets signed by guest. Maybe…..

  159. Nicole, I thought of you the other morning as I heard on the news about a new 100% washable keyboard – can you imagine? You could return to typing and sipping that cup of coffee simultaneously without worrying about a spill! Oh, and I too, as everyone else who has blogged today, would be honored to receive your quilt blocks. Enjoy your visitor.

  161. I would enjoy finishing the quilt. I had a few fat quarters of the Yuletide Blessings fabric and made a small table topper for a gift. I liked working with the fabrics so it would be fun to sew something larger than a table topper.
